The Uganda Parliamentary Women Association (UWOPA) has decried opportunists who have taken advantage of food distribution to ask women for sex.
Addressing journalists at Parliament, the Association Chairperson Pamera Kamugo said that some local leaders are using the current situation to lure vulnerable women into sex.
“Can you imagine some LC leaders are using this opportunity to demand sex in exchange for food.
A lady called me and said ‘I missed food in my area and when I called to chairperson to get my share, he said that in order to give me food, I have to sleep with him,’” Nasiyo said.
She also added that government should think of setting up a special interest free fund to be used after Covid-19 pandemic to save the sinking businesses for both women and men.
She said that also loan interests should be suspended until the pandemic is over.
Additionally, UWOPA has appealed to government to register all elderly people and provide them with necessities, provide access to clean water both to constrained rural and urban center.
Government embarked on the process of distributing relief food to the vulnerable groups that have been affected by the Covid-19 lockdown. So far food has been distributed in parts of Kampala and Wakiso.
