Terrah Baine the manager of rap artiste Santa speaks to us about managing one of Uganda’s top artistes. He spoke to Brian Mulema of Monday Times.
Brian Mulema: What is involved in managing an artiste like Santana?
Terrah: a lot of stuff is involved. It is not only bookings as anyone at first thought would actually take it. That is to say studio sessions, performances and appearances. Managing Santana involves having his back at all times, always be on the look for his welfare, public conduct and lots more.
Brian Mulema: When did you start managing Santana?
Terrah: I had been part of the Santana management team for a year and few months but not managing Santana personally until fourth months ago when I was promoted to the full manager.
Brian Mulema: What makes Santana different from other artistes?
Terrah: Santana is a very good lyricist, hardworking, intelligent and smart. If you listened to Santana’s music you would realize it has a far different feel from others. The music is inspirational, motivating and Santana likes to involve the public.
Brian Mulema: How have you contributed to the growth of Santana as an artiste?
Terrah: I would say first of all, for me to be Santana’s manager, I had to work so hard through growing and making a statement with Santana’s music. That way I earned the trust and yes here we are releasing monster jams like ‘tebalina romance’, ‘kankifeelingemu’ and now ‘kugulu kumu’.
Brian Mulema: Are you open to managing other artistes?
Terrah: No not yet at the moment because my schedule as of now does not let me.
Brian Mulema: What challenges do you face while managing artistes?
Terrah: The only challenge is that when you are managing an artiste whose name is as huge as Santana you cannot do a lot of things like, get crazy anywhere anytime, because the moment you dare make a mistake, it’s the artiste you represent that is downgraded.
Brian Mulema: What is the procedure of booking Santana for a concert?
Terrah: You can book Santana through two channels one by getting your deal or proposal to my attention or you could reach the top most 100 Acres management headed by Mr Kimjo.That way your deal is safe.
Brian Mulema: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Terrah: Well so far so good.In five years I hope to see 100 acres entertainment very big.
