Connie Leah: I started serious singing a year back though I was ministering in church.

Connie Leah

Frank Ntambi: Why did you choose gospel music?

Connie Leah: Music rather singing for the Lord is just passion. I once promised my self when I was growing up to sing for the Lord hence my dream becoming real. Actually I should say Judith babirye who inspired me, her songs are real life and she is inspired by the Holy Spirit. I love worshipping.

Frank Ntambi: What is special about your music?

Connie Leah: I speak many languages which enable me to reach different audiences with ease.My first video is in 6 languages: French, Luo, Kinyarwanda, Luganda, English and KiSwahili. I wanted to pass a message to everyone who hears the song and speaks those languages. I also want to go international.

Frank Ntambi: How many songs do you have so far?

Connie Leah: I have 6 songs right now: 6 audios and 2 videos As below ‘His name'(video) ‘Kulwegologosa’ (video), ‘Asobola’ (audio), ‘Ampanguziza’ (audio), ‘Tusanyuke’ (audio), ‘Abeerawo’ (audio).

Frank Ntambi: Who writes your songs?

Connie Leah: I write some of my songs because I base them on real life experiences. I should say my journey with Jesus Christ is reflected in many of those songs. But you know at some point it gets tough balancing work and ministry. So when I find it difficult to concentrate on writing, I ask some friends to help me write some of the songs. For example ‘Kulwegologosa’ was written by Lukyamuz and ‘His name’ was written by Final Wiesel. These two guys are great people to work with, I appreciate their tremendous work.

Frank Ntambi: Who produces your music?

Connie Leah: I use different producers for different reasons. Kulwegologosa (Artin pro) Asobola and Tusanyuke (Robert Pro) Abeerawo (Ian Pro) Ampanguziza (Henry Pro) His name video (Derc TML) Kulwegologosa video (Director Abra)

Frank Ntambi: How different are you from other musicians?

Connie Leah: I deliver music that teaches, uplifts and inspires listeners.I Trained with one formal vocal coach who was an experienced choir director. I worked on my abilities to harmonize and to sing lead. I got comfortable in singing within my vocal range, with employing my vocal nuances such as vibrato and pitch modulation.

I sing songs that I feel. While vocal precision always matters, it doesn’t always matter the most in gospel music delivery. My Gospel music is meant to be felt by the listeners. Attempting songs that you don’t connect with will reduce one’s ability to appeal to their audience, so I chose songs that complement my personal experiences and singing talent.

Frank Ntambi: What challenges have you faced in the music industry?

Connie Leah: Apparently the most challenge is promotion. Most TVs and radio stations need money to have your songs played.

You also have to consistently create and sustain a positive image. Remember that you are singing gospel music, which glorifies Christian ideals. Authenticity matters to your audience. Failing to live up to high ethical standards may negatively affect your career especially here in Uganda, so me I avoid placing myself in reckless situations, as temporary fun may lead to long-term career disaster.
