DJ Regnick (real name Kayonjo Regan Nicolas) is a top deejay in Kampala City. His state name is DJ Regnick.
The best way to describe DJ Regnick is that he is an international DJ. A DJ who can play in any country of the world and make the crowd happy and stay on their feet all night long.
To those who have seen him play, they say he is the hottest DJ in East Africa at the level of the likes of FunkMaster Flex, DJ Roger Sanchez, David Morales and other International DJs.
DJ Spencer a top DJ in Kampala told us that “DJ Regnick is the best.I have seen DJs all my life like DJ Berry, DJ Alex, DJ Roni, DJ Rota and many others but Regnick can play like all of them and even more than them”
His theme is 256’s craziest DJ. DJ Regnick keeps his crowd dancing all night long when he is on the decks. He has a thorough understanding of music and does so many DJ gymnastics with his turn tables and mixing deck.
We have found him mostly playing at Equator Bar at Sheraton Hotel although he is open to having private gigs if they are at his free time.
His prices are affordable and negotiable although he charges basing on the number of hours he plays.
Dj Regnick started as early as 15 as an in house DJ before he started playing at Club Level in 2010.
The first place DJ Regnick rocked was Malaysia and Singapore where he spun discs for sometime before moving back to Uganda.When he came back several clubs approached him to join them but he settled at Sheraton which he considered as a place of class. He refused to disclose how much he is paid at Sheraton but he said it is a good sum of money commensurate with his top range skills.
Dj Regnick comes from Fort Portal. He studied and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Information Systems from Liton University UK.
He was inspired by passion for music. He has a drive to make people happy. He also wanted to prove to people that you can earn a living from the job of a Deejay and it can be a life changing career.
DJ Regnick has played at Club HQ, Voque Club, Uptown Dance Bar Malaysia, Chamelon Club Singapore, Dream Club Jarkata, and V-Pub Kampala.
He told us that in comparison to other places, Uganda nights are wild and expansive while Malaysia is limited but very creative. They also have a lot of innovations and offers during theme nights to keep clients happy.
Malaysia mostly enjoy hip-hop, R&B and EDM music while in Uganda they enjoy a variety.
He has been nominated for Best DJ in Afrobeats Festival in Malaysia, twice.
His competence is in Audio and Video mixing and technical standards.
His style is of audio and video mixing of all kinds of music as his theme because he enjoys crazy crowds.
Dj Regnick is unique because he has a massive hype and crowd connection. His music selection and his fashion sense is good. He always wants to stand out while he is on the decks.
He told us that he has faced some challenges where his family are not yet fully convinced by his choice of career. Also people do not appreciate Deejays and want to pay less for their services. He also mentioned security problems because on one day he was attacked by Kifeesi and lost all his equipment. There is also a challenge of meeting beautiful girls every night which can be tempting.
In terms of influences on his journey as a Deejay, DJ Regnick says that Platinum Deejays, DJ Ricky,DJ Alex and DJ Rota were his main influences.
As a Deejay he has made many friends and appreciates each of their contributions to his life.
Besides his work as a Deejay, he is the founder and C.E.O. of Oxide Events Uganda. He is also an IT consultant and entrepreneur.
He gives advice to those intending to start work as DJs that the DJ profession is a growing profession and anyone joining should treat it as a career. They should be serious and have respect for the DJ Culture.
