Every now and then a new music star comes on to the horizon. In Uganda, one of the musicians that pundits believe is destined for total stardom is a beautiful lady called Katera Afrika. Her music sounds tick and her videos are hot. She is managed by a very talented manager called Tony, who runs Cavton Music.
Monday Times caught up with her towards the end of last week. She told us how she started and her vision for music.
As a start, she revealed that she chose the name Katera Afrika because she is so attached to African Culture. “You know many musicians pick foreign names but for me I have chosen something that I believe can reflect how I think and what I believe in and that is Katera Afrika,” she says with a smile. “I am singer I am inspired by African culture, that is my sense of brand,” Katera Afrika adds.
To assert her belief in Africa, Katera Afrika has a a tattoo of the map of Africa imprinted on her body. Her real name is Swabra Ainembabazi and she reveals that Katera is also a family name.
It is no surprise that Katera Afrika is a musician. Those who saw her as a child noticed her talent, when she started singing at a tender age. At school in ‘O’ Level at Namagunga and at ‘A’ Level at St.Juliana, Katera Afrika also engaged in singing although not professionally or full time. Immediately after her senior six she started my singing career slowly by slowly then later on she started to do music officially.

“I started singing officially about three years ago (towards the end of 2014).I started with a song titled ‘luberera’ before I got management.Then after when I got management Cavton Music, my manager is Tony,I released a song titled ‘khodeyo’ which had a target audience of Eastern Uganda then I released another one with Nubian Li titled ‘you’re mine’,” Katera Afrika continues to reveal.
After that collaboration she released another song titled ‘Akafananyi.’That was last year. After that song she released another song titled ‘wotali’which was written and produced by Andre and video was shot by Josh SP.Werek then shot ‘luberera’. The other video projects were shot by NG.
Apart from her work as amusician,Katera Afrika is an artist manager.She has also started a fashion line called Katera Fashion Line.

When asked to describe her family, she said, “I come from a humble background we are not rich we are not poor.”
