Uganda Law Society (ULS) has blamed the central government for blocking the musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s Shows. According to the law society the government is violating the legislator’s rights.

In the past months, police has gone ahead to block Bobi wine’s concerts without a specific reason. All it claims is they are trying to prevent crime. Some of the concerts that were blocked from happening include, the one that was to happen in Kasese and the recent one which was called “Yee Ssebo” which was to take place at Busabala beach.

The society released a statement on Saturday morning accusing Security agencies for playing part in the stopping of the legislator from performing at the concerts. On Wednesday 26th December, police went ahead and allowed Bebe Cool’s “ Mutima gwa zabbu” concert to take place in Kiwatule and refused Bobi wine concert which was to take place on the same day.

“Article 40 of the constitution provides every Ugandan with a right to practice one’s profession and trade. The act of denying one the right to participate his trade is therefore is not only unlawful but also unconstitutional.

“All persons are equal before the law in all spheres of economic, political, social and cultural life and in all other aspects. One must be protected by the law,” said the law society president Simon Peter Kinobe.

According to Emilian Kayima bobi wine’s concert was blocked because he had no fulfilled all the necessary requirements yet he was going to host over 3000 people, that is a very big number that need to be protected heavily.

Kayima has advised all the musicians and those planning to organize concerts to make sure they are on the right side of the law to avoid inconveniencies.

The law society says it will continue to monitor the situations and where need be it will take action to fight for the rights of the legislator and other citizens of Uganda who are being oppressed due to such decisions.
