Opposition MP Gilbert Olanya, who represents Kilak South in Parliament, has said that he is not going to refund the Shs 29 given for consultations on age-limit.

Olanya says that the money can be put to better use if he repaired boreholes and community roads. He has planned to repair 20 community roads and 30 boreholes in the area.

Speaking at his office in Akurukwe trading centre in Kilak South Amuru district, Olanya told this newspaper that besides roads and boreholes, he is going to use some of the cash to buy fuel for two ambulances in his constituency.

“I will spend the money on service delivery before I go back to Parliament,” Olanya said.

He did not indicate whether he would provide accountability to Parliament, as broken down in his statement.

“Our Opposition Chief Whip is calling for MPs to return the money describing it as dirty money, yet our people in the communities are struggling with bad roads and contaminated water. I will use the money to address some of these problems,” Olanya said.

Various MPs have handled the age-limit cash differently. Some have opted to refund it while others have put it to different kinds of use.
