The arrival of Television Guru Michael Owor, also known as Bush Baby, at the Gaba Road based STV has got the media industry talking.

STV owned by SK Mbuga has been struggling to find its feet over the last few months. To change things he dipped into his pockets and picked Bush Baby from Vision Group to spear head its major transformation.

This morning, respected media consultant, Dr. Joel Isabirye weighed in on Bush Baby’s new role at STV and how it is bound to change the station once and for all for the better. We bring to you his post on social media.

“STV STANDS THE BEST CHANCE WITH BUSH BABY

Dr. Joel Isabirye

Recently I heard that Bush Baby had joined STV.

STV for some reason has been somewhat watched since it started in 2018, but it has not broken through yet for various reasons. And it was starting to worry many people because when a radio or television station does not break through in 24 months, there is need to rethink its direction.

Bush Baby who is one of the very few people you can entrust with an entire television project has been around from the days of East Africa Television (where he served), which was the regional alternative to Channel O from South Africa. He has also served with Vision Group (two stints) and Next Media, where I found him when I was doing the Next Radio Project. Those three institutions give him a pedigree that few can claim to have.

At STV, Bush Baby finds a station that is reasonably capitalized but is facing the challenge of lack of strategy and efficient and consistent execution. I am certain that the financial inflows could also be of concern to the new proprietors as well as it is with most of the television stations around which are not really working on strategy, positioning and business models but are focused more on pictures and duplication of others.

So far, having seen the station since inception I think Bush Baby is making some very good decisions with the product and if given the latitude to really sit and do things, the station is most likely going to be a true force to reckon with.”

With the media industry taking the arrival of Bush Baby this seriously, the public can only wait to see how STV plays its game going forward.
