KAMPALA-Top radio personality Daniel Irish Kanyerezi is in celebratory mood after being promoted to program director/music director at Capital Radio. The Kampala based station which broadcasts nationwide replaced Shawn Kimuli with Kanyerezi a few weeks ago.

Since his appointment, Daniel Irish has been reporting to work on a full time basis. He checks in an eight in the morning and checks out at five in the evening. Previously he mainly did sit-ins for presenters and also did two weekend shows. He remains on the Dream Breakfast, the Saturday morning show, alongside Ramesh and Tattu.

Irish is said to be bagging eight million shillings in his new position.

A close friend to Irish told us that he was elated at the appointment. “He is definitely above the moon, with these new developments. A promotion at Capital Radio, is such a big thing. It is the biggest radio station in the country,” the friend who asked not to be named said.

In a related development, Moses Kalule, who had left the station for greener pastures in the United Kingdom, returned to take over some of the slots that Irish had been doing. These include the Kampala Top 20 Chart Show, popularly known as KT-20 and the Sunday Inspiration show which carries gospel music.

Capital Radio broadcasts on 91.3 Megahertz. In 1994, it was the second privately owned radio station to start broadcasting in Uganda after Sanyu FM, following the liberalization of the electronic media in Uganda.
