The whereabouts of Frank Gashumba the arrested social commentator and businessman are still unknown.

Gashumba was detained by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) two days ago, on charges of having attempted to defraud businessmen through impersonating ministry of defense and veteran affairs. Yesterday, he was reportedly released.

Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector General of Police Asan Kasingye, however said that he was to be taken to court on Thursday. “Gashumba shall be arraigned in court where he can defend himself,” Kasingye said.

There were also reports that Gashumba would be taken to the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) General Court Martial, for trial. His attempt to defraud a ministry charged with military affairs would be grounds for such a trial.

Gashumba with others including Innocent Kasumba, his brother are accused of having created a company called Flagship Group, to defraud some foreign businessmen, who were supposed to sell trucks to the military.

He is also accused of being in possession of more than one passport, with one carrying the name Senyondo Disan.

Since his arrest, nothing has been heard from him, although his daughter has been actively giving updates on his social media pages. If he is brought to court today, he could be released on bail as he waits for his trial.
