In the vast world of beauty, Make up by Selam has made a mark by offering one of the best make up, hairdressing and beauty services in Kampala City. Today, we visited their location in Kabalagala Kampala, and spoke to Ms Selam, who told us what sets them apart from the rest of the beauty services in the city and beyond.
Monday Times: Good afternoon Madam Selam. We are impressed by your service here. Everything looks fantastic, organized and pleasant. Like our readers, we would love to know what services you offer to the public.
Ms Selam: Thank you for your compliments. Well Make up by Selam is a make up studio and a salon that caters for men and women, meaning that it is Unisex. Personally, I am a professionally trained make up artiste, with a passion for making people beautiful. We offer make up services and we do a wide range of hairstyles for men and women.
For make up we do bridal make up, casual make up, and runway make up. We also do individual eyelash (staying for 3-4 weeks), application and refill for individual eyelashes.
We do both Ugandan and Asian Hairstyles. Because we do Asian Hairstyles, we are able to handle hair from Ethiopians, Eritreans, Somalis, because the styles are similar in feel, texture and features.
We also sell products, mostly make up products and we have different accessories.
Monday Times: This is amazing and surely different. What are some of the other things that make you very different from other providers of similar services?
Ms Selam: Like I mentioned earlier, we do both Asian and Ugandan hairstyles. We also combine Salon and make up services, which many others do not do. Being a professional make up artiste, I do have the guiding principles to apply make up in a professional way, which is helpful to customers.
We have wonderful customer care and are willing to listen to all our customers to ensure that what they need is what they receive from us.
In terms of location, we are also very accessible. We are near the road in Kabalagala and we have parking which makes it convenient if you decide to visit us in a car.
Our studio and salon has a cooling system that keeps you fresh, and it is safe and secure.
Because we sell products, if you need to buy anything, we can sell it to you without having to go out and look for another make up product, saving you a lot of time and money.
Monday Times: Do you do training for people wanting to learn to do make up?
Ms Selam: Yes we do that very well. If you would like to learn, we are willing to offer to you that service.
Monday Times: With all these wonderful services, what are your opening hours and days, for people to come and get these services?
Ms Selam: We open from 8am to 9pm everyday of the week and weekend.
Monday Times: Do you do mobile services?
Ms Selam: Yes we do mobile services. We can go to where our clients want us to go, as long as they tell us to do so and we agree on how to go about it.
Monday Times: Do you accept calls to make bookings, in advance of a customer coming to your studio and salon?
Ms Selam: Yes we do accept calls. You can all us anytime and come over.
Monday Times: How are your prices like?
Ms Selam: Our prices are very friendly. They are the most friendly in Kampala.
Monday Times: How long does your make up last?
Ms Selam: Our make up lasts for an entire day. So far we have done several brides and none has ever complained that our make up got off before their day was over. So we are confident that it really lasts.
Monday Times: This is beautiful. So where are you located?
Ms Selam: We are located in Kabalagala on the road that goes to Muyenga, before you branch to the road that goes to Kibuli. We are a few metres away from the former D’Posh Bar and Restaurant. We are also next to Buffalo Pharmacy.
